Spiced Apple Rings - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    4 c. sugar
    2 c. water
    1 c. apple cider or juice
    2 Tbsp. cinnamon candies
    1 tsp. whole cloves
    8 Rome Beauty apples, cored and cut crosswise into 1/2-inch thick slices
Preparation
    In large saucepan, mix sugar, water, apple cider, cinnamon candies and cloves; heat to boiling.
    Reduce heat to low.
    Simmer, uncovered, for 10 minutes.
    Add apples slices; cook, turning occasionally, until apples are just tender, about 6 to 8 minutes. Spoon apples and liquid into jars; cover and refrigerate overnight for flavors to blend.
    Yields 5 pints.
