German Chocolate Cake - cooking recipe

1 c. shortening
4 eggs, separated
2 1/2 c. cake flour
1 tsp. soda
pinch of salt
2 c. sugar
1 c. buttermilk
1 bar German sweet chocolate
1 tsp. vanilla
Preparation

Whip 4 egg whites and melt chocolate in 1/4 cup boiling water. Cream shortening and sugar well.
Add beaten egg yolks.
Add 3/4 cup buttermilk, alternating with flour.
Dissolve soda in remaining 1/4 cup buttermilk and add to flour mixture.
Add 1 teaspoon vanilla and pinch of salt to chocolate and add to batter. Fold mixture of egg whites into batter.
Bake at 350\u00b0 for 30 minutes.
