Bread And Butter Pickles - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    4 qt. cucumbers
    6 medium onions
    3 whole cloves garlic
    1/2 c. salt
    5 c. sugar
    3 c. brown vinegar
    1 1/2 tsp. turmeric
    1 1/2 Tbsp. celery seed
    2 Tbsp. mustard seed
Preparation
    Slice cucumbers, onions and garlic.
    Add salt and cover with 2 or 3 trays of ice.
    Let stand 3 hours.
    Drain well, remove garlic.
    Add remaining ingredients.
    Bring to a boil.
    Put in jars and cook in a canner for 5 minutes.
