Seven Layer Salad - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1 c. shredded lettuce
    1 c. chopped celery
    1 large sweet onion, sliced
    1 green bell pepper, diced
    1 small can English peas, drained
    1 small can water chestnuts, sliced
    1 c. shredded lettuce
Preparation
    Layer ingredients as listed in a 4-quart salad bowl.
    Seal with 1 cup mayonnaise.
    Cover and refrigerate for several hours.
    Toss just before serving.
