Mints - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1 c. water
    2 c. sugar
    4 Tbsp. butter or margarine
    1/2 tsp. peppermint extract (I use a few drops of oil of peppermint)
    few drops red or green food coloring
Preparation
    Stir water, sugar and butter or margarine in a large saucepan over a medium heat until sugar and butter or margarine are dissolved.
    Cook, without stirring, until a few drops tested in cold water produce a soft, crackable thread (261\u00b0 on thermometer). Pour onto greased tray.
