New Orleans Red Beans - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1 lb. dried kidney beans
    1 hambone or leftover ham
    6 c. water
    1 tsp. Worcestershire sauce
    1 tsp. onion powder
    3 c. cooked rice
    2 lb. link sausage (hot), cut in 1-inch pieces
    1 tsp. salt
    1/2 tsp. hot pepper sauce
    1 bay leaf
Preparation
    Soak beans overnight.
    Drain.
    In large Dutch oven or kettle, add all ingredients, except rice and bring to a boil, stirring frequently to prevent sticking.
    Reduce heat to low and cook slowly for several hours.
    If necessary, add water if beans are not tender.
    If you want thicker gravy, mash a few beans and cook until remaining beans are tender.
    Serve over rice.
