1864 Savron Plantation Date And Nut Cake - cooking recipe
Ingredients

2 (8 oz.) pkg. dates, pitted
1 qt. pecans, chopped
1 1/4 c. flour (plain)
1/2 c. sugar
grape or orange juice to moisten
1 tsp. vanilla
1/2 tsp. salt
1 egg
Preparation

Dates must be cut finely and pecans chopped small.
Needs no fat or butter. Nuts will add what's necessary as oil.
Add flour, salt and egg.
Mix well.
Moisten with fruit juice.
Add vanilla. Press fairly dry mixture into loaf pan.
A small 1 1/2 pound bread pan will do.
You can moisten side of pan with oil or line pan with brown paper bag, oiled.
Cook very, very slowly in 250\u00b0 oven for several hours.
Cool and cut very thinly with hot sharp knife. Very rich.
