Hush Puppies - cooking recipe

Ingredients

3/4 c. corn meal
3/4 c. self-rising flour
1 Tbsp. sugar
1 tsp. salt
1 tsp. soda
3/4 c. buttermilk
1 egg, slightly beaten
1 medium onion, finely chopped
salad oil or shortening

Preparation

Combine dry ingredients.
Add buttermilk, egg and onion, stirring well.
Carefully drop batter by tablespoons into deep hot oil (370\u00b0).
Cook only a few at a time, turning once.
Fry until hush puppies are golden brown, 3 to 5 minutes.
Drain well on absorbent towels.
