Four Square Pudding - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    6 slices dry bread
    1/2 c. raisins
    1/4 c. bran
    2 eggs, separated
    6 Tbsp. sugar
    1/2 tsp. nutmeg
    2 c. milk
    1 tsp. vanilla
Preparation
    Remove crusts from bread, spread slices with butter.
    Cut into squares and arrange in layers in an 8-inch greased baking dish. Sprinkle each layer with raisins and bran.
    Beat egg yolks.
    Add 2 tablespoons of the sugar, nutmeg, milk and flavoring.
    Mix thoroughly and pour over bread.
    Bake in oven at 350\u00b0 for about 35 minutes.
    Cover with meringue made of stiffly beaten egg whites and remaining sugar.
    Bake in slow oven at 300\u00b0 about 20 minutes or until meringue is lightly browned on top.
