Iced Green Tomato Pickles - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    8 lb. green tomatoes
    2 gal. water
    3 c. powdered lime
    6 lb. sugar
    3 pt. vinegar
    1 1/2 tsp. ground cloves
    1 1/2 tsp. ginger
    1 1/2 tsp. allspice
    1 1/2 tsp. celery seed
    1 tsp. cinnamon
    green food coloring
Preparation
    Soak sliced tomatoes in lime water for 24 hours; drain.
    Soak in fresh water for 4 hours, changing water every half hour.
    Drain well.
    Make a syrup of sugar and vinegar; add spices.
    Bring syrup to a boil; pour over tomatoes.
    Let stand overnight.
