Date Loaf - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    3 c. sugar
    1 c. milk
    1 Tbsp. butter
    1 box pitted dates, chopped
    2 c. nuts, chopped
Preparation
    Combine first 3 ingredients in heavy large saucepan.
    Cook to soft ball stage.
    Add dates.
    Beat by hand until cool.
    Add nuts. Roll into long roll in damp cloth.
    Store in refrigerator until ready to serve.
    Slice 1/2 to 3/8-inch thick.
    Makes two logs totaling 26-inches in length.
    Makes 50 to 70 slices.
