Cherokee Casserole - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1 lb. ground beef
    3/4 c. chopped onions
    1 1/2 tsp. salt
    dash of pepper
    1/8 tsp. each: garlic powder, thyme and oregano
    1/2 small bay leaf
    1 (16 oz.) can tomatoes
    1 c. Minute rice
    6 stuffed olives (slices)
    2 or 3 slices American cheese, cut in 1/2-inch strips
Preparation
    Brown meat; add onions and cook until tender.
    Stir in ingredients in order given except 3 of the olives and cheese. Bring to a boil, reduce heat and simmer for 5 minutes, stirring occasionally.
    Spoon into baking dish and top with cheese.
    Broil until cheese is melted.
    Garnish with olives.
    Serves 4 to 6.
