Ingredients

1/2 c. butter
1/2 c. light brown sugar
3/4 c. sugar
1/2 tsp. vanilla
1 egg
2 c. flour
pinch of salt
1/4 tsp. soda
7 1/4 oz. pitted dates
1 c. nuts
Preparation

Cream butter, brown sugar, 1/2 cup sugar, vanilla and egg. Beat until light.
Add sifted dry ingredients.
Chill until firm. Chop dates.
Bring to boil with 1/3 cup water, 1/4 cup sugar and a dash of salt.
Simmer 5 minutes.
Add nuts.
Stir often.
Cool.
