Date Cake - cooking recipe
Ingredients

1 c. chopped dates
1 c. boiling water
1/2 c. shortening
1 c. packed brown sugar
1 egg
1 tsp. vanilla
1 2/3 c. flour
1/4 tsp. salt
1 tsp. soda
Preparation

Mix dates with boiling water and cool to lukewarm.
Cream shortening and brown sugar.
Add egg and vanilla.
Beat well. Combine with dates.
Add flour, salt and soda.
Beat well.
Bake in greased 13 x 9-inch pan at 350\u00b0 for 35 to 40 minutes.
Top with broiled icing.
