Our Favorite Strawberry Pie - cooking recipe

1 baked (9-inch) pie shell
1 (3 oz.) pkg. cream cheese, softened
1 qt. fresh strawberries
1 c. sugar
3 Tbsp. cornstarch
whipped cream
Preparation

Spread cream cheese in bottom of pie shell.
Choose best half of washed, drained and hulled berries.
Spread these whole berries over cream cheese.
Mash remaining berries thoroughly to make a thin pulp.
Add just enough water to this pulp and juice to make 1 1/2 cups.
Blend sugar and cornstarch; stir into fruit mixture. Cook, stirring constantly, until mixture boils for 1 minute. Cool.
Pour over berries in pie shell.
Chill about 2 hours.
