Basic Yeast Bread - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1 cake yeast
    1/4 c. warm water
    1 tsp. sugar
    1 1/2 tsp. salt
    2 Tbsp. shortening
    2 Tbsp. sugar
    2 c. milk, scalded
    6 c. sifted flour (about)
Preparation
    Mix yeast, warm water and 1 teaspoon sugar and let cool.
    Add shortening, salt and sugar to milk and let cool.
    Add yeast and 3 cups of flour; beat well.
    Turn out and work in as much flour as needed.
    Knead until elastic.
    Put in a greased bowl, turn to grease top.
    Let rise until double.
    Punch down; shape into loaves or rolls.
    Let rise until almost double.
