Braised Beef - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1 1/2 lb. stew beef
    3/4 c. sliced onions
    3 Tbsp. fat
    1 beef bouillon cube
    8 oz. can tomato sauce
    2 tsp. Worcestershire sauce
    1 tsp. basil, oregano OR marjoram
    1/2 tsp. sugar
    1 tsp. salt
    1/8 tsp. pepper
Preparation
    Cut meat into one inch cubes. Brown with onions in hot fat in Dutch oven or other heavy skillet. Dissolve bouillon cube in 1 cup hot water and add with remaining ingredients. Cover and cook over slow heat until meat is tender, 2 1/2 to 3 hours; or use a covered casserole dish in a 300\u00b0 oven. Add more water as needed. Thicken liquid, if desired, with a paste made of flour and water. Makes 4 servings. A 4 ounce can of sliced or button mushrooms may be added, if desired.
