Bread And Butter Pickles - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    25 cucumbers (3 to 5 inches in length)
    1 qt. vinegar
    2 tsp. mustard seed
    12 onions
    2 c. sugar
    2 tsp. turmeric
    2 tsp. celery seed
Preparation
    Wash and drain vegetables.
    Slice cucumbers and onions.
    Soak in salt solution (2 quarts ice water and 1/2 cup salt) for 3 hours. Mix vinegar, sugar and spices.
    Bring to a boil.
    Add cucumbers and onions just to heat through.
    Pack hot cucumbers into jars, leaving 1/2-inch headspace.
    Cover with boiling hot liquid.
    Adjust lids. Process in boiling water bath for 15 minutes.
