German Beer Cake - cooking recipe

2 c. dark brown sugar
1 c. soft butter
2 eggs
1 tsp. cinnamon
1/2 tsp. allspice
1/2 tsp. ground cloves
3 c. flour, sifted
2 tsp. baking powder
1/2 tsp. salt
1 c. chopped walnuts
2 c. chopped dates
2 c. beer (yes, beer)
Preparation

Combine sugar and butter and cream until smooth.
Add eggs and beat well.
Sift cinnamon, allspice, cloves, flour, soda and salt together.
Dust walnuts and dates with a small amount of flour mixture.
Add remaining flour mixture alternately with the beer to creamed mixture; blend well after each addition.
Stir in walnuts and dates.
