Ingredients

3/4 c. shortening
1 c. granulated sugar
1/4 c. molasses
1 egg
2 c. flour
2 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. cinnamon
1/2 tsp. ground cloves
1/2 tsp. ground ginger
extra sugar
Preparation

Mix together shortening, sugar, molasses and egg.
Sift together dry ingredients; blend with shortening mixture.
Roll into balls.
Roll balls in extra sugar.
Place on cookie sheet about 2 inches apart.
Flatten.
Bake about 8 to 10 minutes at 375\u00b0.
