Dumplings - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1 1/2 c. flour
    2/3 tsp. salt
    2 Tbsp. shortening
    1 egg, beaten
    1/2 c. milk
    1 qt. or more chicken broth
    1 tsp. butter
Preparation
    Sift flour and salt together; mix in shortening.
    Add egg and enough milk to make a soft dough.
    Roll out on floured board until thin.
    Cut into 1-inch wide by 3-inch long strips.
    Drop into 1 quart or more of boiling chicken broth in crisscross pattern. Cook 20 minutes with lid off.
    When dumplings are cooked, add 1 tablespoon butter and more milk if desired.
    Do not stir.
