Au Gratin Potatoes - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1 (1 lb.) can sliced potatoes (liquid reserved)
    1 c. milk
    4 Tbsp. butter
    3/4 tsp. salt
    1/4 tsp. pepper
    2 1/4 c. instant mashed potato flakes
    1/2 pt. dairy sour cream
    8 oz. grated sharp cheese
    4 Tbsp. dry minced onion or 1/2 chopped fresh onion
    1/2 c. butter
    1 c. grated American cheese
Preparation
    Drain potatoes.
    Reserve liquid and add enough water to make 2 cups.
    Pour into 2-quart saucepan.
    Add milk, 4 tablespoons butter, salt and pepper.
    Bring to a boil.
    Remove from heat at once and immediately stir in mashed potato flakes.
    Stir in sour cream, sharp cheese and onion.
