Caramel Coffee Cake - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    2 c. flour
    1 c. white sugar
    1 c. brown sugar
    1/2 tsp. salt
    1/2 c. shortening
    1 tsp. baking soda
    1 c. buttermilk
    1 egg, beaten
Preparation
    Sift flour; measure and sift into bowl with sugars and salt. Cut in shortening with pastry blender until it is crumbly. Measure out 1 cup of this mixture and set aside for topping. Dissolve soda in buttermilk and add to beaten egg.
    Stir in remaining crumb mixture.
    Pour into a wax paper-lined 8-inch square pan.
    Sprinkle the 1 cup of crumb mixture over batter. Bake in moderate oven at 350\u00b0 for 45 to 50 minutes.
    Serves 6.
