Spinach Salad - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1 c. oil
    1/4 c. red wine vinegar
    1/3 c. ketchup
    1/4 c. sugar
    1 medium onion, grated
    1/2 to 1 lb. fresh spinach
    2 hard-boiled eggs, chopped
    6 slices bacon, fried and crumbled
    5 oz. water chestnuts, sliced
    1/2 can bean sprouts
    sharp Cheddar cheese, shredded (cover top)
Preparation
    Combine the first 5 ingredients and let stand.
    Toss remaining ingredients together except cheese.
    Top with cheese.
    Pour on dressing before serving.
