Pioneer Stew - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1 to 1 1/2 lb. venison, elk or beef stew meat
    1/8 c. oil
    salt and pepper to taste
    garlic powder to taste
    4 c. water
    1 medium onion, chopped
    sprig fresh parsley or 1/2 tsp. dried
    4 carrots, sliced
    3 stalks celery, cut in 1/2-inch pieces
    1 Tbsp. beef soup base
    3 medium potatoes, cubed
    2 c. chopped cabbage
    1 or 2 turnips, peeled and cubed
    1/2 c. frozen peas or 1 c. frozen cut okra
Preparation
    Roll stew meat in flour. Heat oil in large cast-iron or enamel stew pot. Brown meat on medium heat.
    Add salt, pepper and garlic powder.
