Ingredients

3/4 c. sugar
3 Tbsp. cornstarch
1/4 tsp. salt
2 c. scalded milk
3 eggs
2 Tbsp. butter
1 tsp. vanilla
1 (4 oz.) can coconut
1 (9-inch) baked pie shell
1/2 tsp. cream of tartar
6 Tbsp. sugar
Preparation

Combine 3/4 cup sugar, cornstarch and salt.
Add milk gradually.
Cook and stir until mixture thickens (3 to 5 minutes). Add small amount of hot mixture to egg yolks.
Stir well and add to hot mixture.
Cook 2 minutes, stirring constantly.
Remove from heat.
Add butter, vanilla and 1/2 can coconut.
Pour in pie shell. Top with meringue made of egg whites, cream of tartar and 6 tablespoons sugar.
Bake at 350\u00b0 until meringue browns.
