Pecan Coffee Cake - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    2 c. brown sugar
    2 c. flour
    1/2 c. shortening (butter and Crisco or margarine)
    1 c. buttermilk
    1 tsp. soda
    1/2 tsp. salt
    1 tsp. vanilla
    1 egg
    1/2 c. chopped pecans
Preparation
    Mix sugar, flour and shortening together as you would pie crust.
    Take out 1/2 cup mixture; save for topping.
    To the remainder, add the buttermilk and teaspoon of soda which has been dissolved in a tablespoon of warm water, vanilla, salt and egg. Beat together.
    Turn into buttered pan approximately 9 1/2 inches square.
    Sprinkle over top the 1/2 cup of crumbs and 1/2 cup chopped pecans.
    Bake at 400\u00b0 for 45 minutes.
    Best served slightly warm.
