Mom'S Apple Cobbler - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1/2 c. (1 stick) margarine
    2 c. sugar
    2 c. hot water
    1 1/2 c. self-rising flour, sift before measuring
    1/2 c. shortening
    2 c. finely chopped tart apples (any apple that cooks quickly will do fine)
    1 c. (additional) apples, chop and reserve
Preparation
    Heat oven to 350\u00b0.
    Melt margarine in a 13 x 9 x 2-inch baking dish.
    Add sugar and water.
    Stir to melt margarine and sugar. Add 1 cup chopped apples and stir.
    Let stand while preparing pastry.
