Peasant Cheese Bread - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    2 c. (500 ml) whole wheat flour
    2 c. (500 ml) all-purpose flour
2 tsp. (10 ml) baking powder (can increase to 3 tsp.)
1 tsp. (5 ml) baking soda
    1 tsp. salt
    1/4 to 1/2 c. regular or quick-cooking rolled oats
2 c. (500 ml) grated old cheddar cheese (Havarti or other cheeses may be substituted)
2 Tbsp. (25 ml) syrup or honey (*Do Not Use Molasses)
    1 large egg, beaten
    1 3/4 c. (440 ml) buttermilk
Preparation
In a large bowl, combine flours, baking powder, baking soda, salt and cheese. In a second bowl, big enough for the purpose, combine syrup, beaten egg, and the buttermilk. Add the \"wet\" stuff to the \"dry\" ingredients. Mix just enough to thoroughly combine. Knead about 10 to 12 times on a board or flat surface that has been sprinkled with the oats. Mold into a 7-inch (17.5 cm) ball on a greased baking sheet. Bake at 375\u00b0 (190 C) from 45 to 50 minutes or until bread sounds hollow when tapped underneath. Cool completely. Rewarm to serve.
