Bread And Butter Pickles - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1 gal. sliced small cucumbers
    4 onions, sliced
    2 green peppers, sliced
    1 red pepper, sliced
    1/2 c. salt
    1 tray ice cubes
    2 c. vinegar
    1 c. water
    4 c. sugar
    3-inch piece stick cinnamon, crushed
    2 tsp. celery seed
    1/2 tsp. dry ground mustard
Preparation
    Mix salt thoroughly into mixture of first 4 ingredients.
    Empty ice cubes in center and let stand 3 hours.
    Mix remaining ingredients.
    Drain vegetables thoroughly.
    Heat vinegar mixture to boiling.
    Add vegetables and heat over low heat to scalding. Simmer on low for 10 minutes.
    Do not allow to boil.
    Stir frequently to keep from sticking.
    Seal while hot.
    Makes 6 to 8 pints.
