Granny'S Candied Pickles - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    2 gal. sliced cucumbers
    2 c. plain salt
    1/2 box alum
    1 c. vinegar
    1/2 box ginger
    5 lb. sugar
    2 1/2 pt. vinegar
    1/2 box pickling spices
Preparation
    Mix and cover cucumbers and salt with boiling water and leave for 3 days in a non-metal container.
    Drain, wash and cover with boiling water again and leave for 24 hours.
    Then wash several times.
    Mix alum, vinegar and ginger and add to the cucumbers and simmer for 1 hour.
    Wash and put cucumbers in a pan with sugar, 2 1/2 pints vinegar and pickling spices.
    Boil 10 minutes and can.
