Eleanor'S Bread And Butter Pickles - cooking recipe
Ingredients

4 qt. thinly sliced cucumbers
1/3 c. coarse salt
5 c. sugar
3 c. vinegar
1 1/2 tsp. celery seed
2 Tbsp. mustard seed
1 1/2 tsp. turmeric
Preparation

Put salt over cucumbers.
Cover with ice and mix.
Let stand 3 hours.
Drain and rinse.
Sliced onion may also be added.
Combine sugar, vinegar, celery seed, mustard seed and turmeric.
Bring to boil and add the well drained cucumbers (and onions if desired). Bring to a boil.
Place pickles in sterilized jar and cover with hot liquid.
Makes about 5 pints.
