English Almond Toffee - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1 1/3 c. oleo
    1 c. sugar
    2/3 c. water
    1 tsp. salt
    1 1/3 c. blanched almonds, slivered
    1/2 tsp. soda
    1 c. semi-sweet chocolate pieces
    1/2 c. chopped pecans
Preparation
    Cook butter, sugar, water and salt over low heat, stirring constantly until it boils.
    Cook without stirring to 236\u00b0 or until a little dropped in cold water forms a soft ball.
    Add almonds. Continue cooking to 290\u00b0 (soft crack stage), stirring constantly. Remove from heat.
    Mixture turns to a deep caramel color.
    Stir in soda.
    Turn out onto greased baking sheet to 1/4-inch thickness. Immediately spread with chocolate pieces.
    Spread chocolate as it melts; sprinkle with pecans.
