Ingredients

1 1/4 c. butter or Crisco
1 3/4 c. sugar
2 eggs
2 tsp. vanilla
2 c. flour
3/4 c. unsweetened cocoa
1 tsp. baking soda
dash of salt
1 c. nuts (optional)
Preparation

Cream the shortening and sugar.
Add eggs and vanilla.
Blend well. Add remaining ingredients. Drop by spoonful on ungreased cookie sheet.
Bake at 350\u00b0 for 8 to 9 minutes.
Do not overbake! Leave on cookie sheet for a minute or so before removing.
Store in an airtight container.
Makes about 4 1/2 dozen.
