Date Loaf Candy - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1 (7 or 8 oz.) pkg. dates, chopped
    3 c. granulated sugar
    1 c. milk
    1/2 c. oleo
    2 c. chopped nuts
Preparation
    Combine sugar, milk and oleo.
    Bring to a rolling boil.
    Add dates and stir well.
    Return to burner and cook without stirring until mixture forms a soft ball (238\u00b0).
    Remove from fire and beat until mixture will drop from a spoon into a great mass.
    Add nuts. Pour into a 10-inch square pan.
    When cool enough, cut into squares.
    (Does not do well in damp weather.)
