Old Fashioned Chicken And Dumplings - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    3 lb. broiler-fryer, cut up
    1 Tbsp. salt
    about 6 c. water
    1/4 tsp. ground thyme
    1 medium onion, halved
    1/4 tsp. pepper
    2 c. self-rising flour
    about 1/2 c. ice water
Preparation
    Combine chicken, onion, salt, pepper and about 6 cups water in a Dutch oven.
    Bring to a boil.
    Cover and simmer 2 hours or until chicken is tender.
    Remove chicken from broth; cool.
    Bone chicken.
    If necessary, add additional water to broth to measure 6 cups.
    Return chicken to broth and bring to a boil.
