Yum-Yum Pie - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    3/4 c. sugar
    1 Tbsp. cornstarch
    1 (20 oz.) pineapple tidbits, undrained
    1 (21 oz.) cherry pie filling
    1 tsp. red food coloring (optional)
    1 (3 oz.) box strawberry jello
    4 bananas, sliced
    1 (10-inch) pie shell or 2 (9-inch) pie shells, baked and cooled
    3 c. Cool Whip
    1 c. chopped nuts
Preparation
    Mix sugar and cornstarch; add pineapple and mix well.
    Stir in pie filling and food coloring.
    Cook over medium heat until thickened (5 to 8 minutes).
    Remove from heat and stir in dry gelatin.
    Let cool, then stir in bananas and spoon into pie shells.
    Cover with whipped topping and sprinkle with nuts. Refrigerate until pie is set.
