Harvest Torte - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    4 c. diced, unpared apples (tart)
    1 c. sugar
    1/2 c. sifted flour
    2 tsp. baking powder
    1 egg
    1 Tbsp. melted butter or margarine
    1 tsp. vanilla
    1/2 c. nuts
    1/2 c. pitted dates, cut up
Preparation
    Combine all ingredients.
    Mix thoroughly, but do not beat. Turn into greased 8 x 8-inch pan.
    Bake at 400\u00b0 for 40 minutes or until apples are tender.
    Cut into 6 or 8 squares.
    Serve with whipped cream.
