Date And Nut Loaf - cooking recipe

3/4 c. boiling water
2 c. chopped dates
1 tsp. baking soda
2 Tbsp. shortening
3/4 c. sugar
1 beaten egg
1 tsp. vanilla
1 3/4 c. presifted flour
1/2 tsp. salt
1/2 c. chopped walnuts
Preparation

Preheat oven to 350\u00b0. Pour boiling water over
chopped dates; add baking soda and let stand until cool. Cream shortening and sugar, add
beaten egg and vanilla; beat until well combined. Add date mixture, flour, salt and walnuts. Stir only until combined. Pour into a greased 9 x 5-inch loaf pan. Let stand for 20 minutes. Bake in a preheated 350\u00b0 oven for 60 to 70 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center of loaf comes out clean.
