Onion Salad - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    3 c. Spanish onions, thinly sliced
    1/4 tsp. soda
    1/4 c. vinegar
    1/2 tsp. sugar
    1/4 tsp. salt
    dash of pepper
    1/4 c. mayonnaise
Preparation
    Place onion and soda in lukewarm water and let stand 5 minutes. Drain.
    Then crisp onions by allowing them to stand in ice water, changing water several times.
    Drain and dry thoroughly.
    Add vinegar, sugar and seasoning.
    Let stand 10 minutes.
    Drain and dry thoroughly.
    Serve on crisp lettuce.
    Garnish with mayonnaise. Makes 6 servings.
