Chinese Beets - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    3 (16 oz.) cans beets
    1 c. vinegar
    24 whole cloves
    3 Tbsp. oil (optional)
    salt to taste
    1 c. sugar
    2 Tbsp. cornstarch
    3 Tbsp. ketchup
    1 tsp. vanilla
Preparation
    Mix well, then cook for 3 minutes over medium heat or until the mixture thickens.
    Let cool and refrigerate.
