Oriental Beef Strips - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    2 lb. round steak
    2 Tbsp. fat
    1/3 c. soy sauce
    1 clove garlic, minced (optional)
    3 carrots, cut in thin strips
    2 green peppers, cut in 1-inch cubes
    2 green onions, cut in 1-inch cubes
    1/2 lb. mushrooms, halved
    1 (8 oz.) water chestnuts, sliced
    2 Tbsp. cornstarch
    1 c. water
Preparation
    Cut steak in 1-inch strips (1/8 x 3-inches).
    Brown in heavy skillet; add water to browned steak.
    Combine other ingredients and add to pan, except cornstarch.
    Cover tightly and cook slowly for 45 minutes until meat is tender.
    Thicken with cornstarch.
