Ingredients

1 c. butter
1 c. sugar
1 egg
1 tsp. vanilla
2 1/2 c. flour
1/2 tsp. salt
1/2 tsp. red food color
1/2 tsp. peppermint extract
Preparation

Mix together butter, sugar, egg and vanilla.
Add sifted flour and salt; mix thoroughly.
Divide dough in half.
Blend food color and peppermint extract in half of dough.
Chill 1/2 hour.
Make candy cane shapes (twist a red rope around a white rope and shape into candy canes).
Bake at 375\u00b0 for 9 minutes.
