Ingredients

1 c. unsulphured molasses
1/2 c. shortening
1 tsp. baking soda
2 2/3 c. sifted flour
1 tsp. cinnamon
1 tsp. ginger
1 1/2 tsp. baking powder
Preparation

Heat molasses to boiling in saucepan deep enough for mixing dough.
Remove from heat.
Stir in shortening and baking soda. Sift in flour, baking powder and spices.
Mix well.
Chill.
Roll out dough 1/8-inch thick on lightly floured board.
Cut into desired shapes.
Place on lightly greased baking sheet.
Bake at 350\u00b0 for 8 to 10 minutes.
Cool slightly before removing from cookie sheet.
Decorate with ornamental frosting.
Makes 3 dozen cookies.
