West Haven Cake - cooking recipe
Ingredients

1 small pkg. dates
1 tsp. soda
1 c. hot water
1 c. sugar
1/2 c. shortening
1/4 tsp. salt
2 eggs
1 tsp. vanilla
1 3/4 c. flour
1 tsp. cocoa
1/2 c. nut meats
1 bar (sq.) German sweet chocolate
3 or 4 Hershey candy bars
Preparation

Cut dates in half and pour over them the hot water mixed with the soda.
Let cool.
Cream the sugar and shortening.
Add the dates to the creamed mixture and add the salt. Add eggs, vanilla and flour (that was sifted with the cocoa).
Pour into a 9 x 13-inch pan and sprinkle with the nut meats and 1 bar of German sweet chocolate and Hershey candy bars over the top.
Bake 40 minutes at 350\u00b0.
