Ingredients

2 c. sugar
1 c. butter
6 eggs, separated
1 c. buttermilk
2 tsp. soda
4 c. sifted flour
1 tsp. cinnamon
1 tsp. nutmeg
1 tsp. cloves
1 tsp. vanilla
2 c. blackberry jam
1 c. raisins
2 c. black walnuts or pecans
Preparation

Cream butter and sugar.
Add well beaten egg yolks, then beat until light and creamy.
Add dry ingredients alternately with buttermilk and mix until smooth.
Mix jam, raisins and nuts in by hand.
Fold in well beaten egg whites; mix thoroughly.
Bake until done at 300\u00b0 (between 2 1/2 and 3 hours, depending upon your stove).
