Refrigerator Pickles - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    4 c. sugar
    1/2 c. salt
    1 1/2 tsp. celery seed
    4 c. cider vinegar
    1 1/2 tsp. turmeric
    1 1/2 tsp. mustard seed
    thinly sliced cucumbers and onions
    garlic and hot peppers (optional)
Preparation
    Bring first 6 ingredients to a boil; let cool.
    Pour into gallon jar and add cucumbers and onions.
    Garlic and hot peppers may be added if desired.
    Put into refrigerator.
    Add new cucumbers as needed.
