Ingredients

2 1/2 c. self-rising flour
1 c. brown sugar
2 eggs
1 tsp. salt
1/2 tsp. baking powder
1/2 tsp. soda
2 c. oatmeal (regular or quick)
1/2 c. shortening
1/2 c. butter
1 c. white sugar
2 tsp. vanilla
1 c. chopped pecans
1 c. coconut
Preparation

Sift flour, salt, baking powder and soda.
Stir in oats, cream, shortening and butter.
Add eggs, sugars and vanilla. Cream until fluffy.
Stir in dry ingredients; add pecans and coconut.
Mix well.
Chill dough.
Shape tablespoons of dough into balls.
Place 2 inches apart on greased cookie sheet.
Flatten with fork.
Bake at 350\u00b0 for 12 to 15 minutes.
Makes 5 dozen cookies.
