Ingredients

1 3/4 c. Brer Rabbit molasses (green label)
2 c. light brown sugar
1 1/2 c. shortening
5 tsp. baking soda
2 c. buttermilk
6 c. flour
1/2 tsp. salt
1 or 2 egg yolks, beaten
Preparation

Cream sugar and shortening thoroughly.
Mix soda with buttermilk.
Add molasses and blend.
Add sugar mixture, alternating with flour and salt.
Store in covered bowl in refrigerator overnight.
Drop from tablespoon on cookie sheet 2-inches apart.
Flatten slightly.
Brush with beaten egg yolk. Bake at 375\u00b0 for 10 minutes.
Makes 7 to 8 dozen.
