Gingerbread - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1/2 c. shortening
    1/2 c. sugar
    2 eggs, beaten
    2 1/2 c. all purpose flour, sifted
    1 1/2 tsp. baking powder
    1/2 tsp. soda
    1/2 tsp. salt
    1 tsp. ginger
    1 tsp. cinnamon
    1/4 tsp. cloves
    1 c. Steen's syrup
    1 c. boiling water
Preparation
    Cream sugar and shortening until fluffy.
    Add eggs, then previously sifted dry ingredients alternately with the syrup and water.
    Add one cup chopped nuts if desired.
    Beat enough to mix thoroughly.
    Pour into a well greased 12 1/2 x 8 x 2-inch pan and bake at 350\u00b0 for 40 to 45 minutes.
